Transitions Part 2...
Dear CCC Family
We are excited to announce, Ryan Lucas will serve in the
coming months as our Interim Youth Director. Ryan comes to us with great energy, passion, and experience
working with teens and children. Currently,
Ryan is the principal at Elk Creek Elementary School, and he has volunteered in
youth ministry through Aspen Ridge Church. Ryan will be working to help the students of CCC process in a
healthy way this transition our church is currently going through. We look forward to Ryan leading the
students at Ignite on Wednesdays beginning September 2, and he, along with his fiancé
Kelly, will be attending CCC as well in order to help the students get plugged
into the broader ministries of CCC.
This will be a temporary position that will allow the elders
and student ministry leaders to evaluate and guide the next chapter of family
ministry at CCC. Please continue
to be in prayer as God leads us toward a more permanent solution for our family
ministry.
If you are interested in serving with Ryan under his
leadership through this transition process, please join us for a leadership
dinner Tuesday evening 6:30, where we will set the schedule for Ignite and hear
from Ryan the vision he has for our students.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Lance and Elders

Transitions
Dear CCC Family,
We are in a season of transitions. You received the email from Stuart this week telling of the
opportunity he and Melissa are pursuing in Connecticut. I’m sure this was surprising to you as
it was to me. We also are
preparing to send Dorothy and Daniel off to sea level in a short time. These transitions can be very
overwhelming.
Over the coming months, I want you to join me in a few
things. First, we will be saying
goodbye to Stuart and Melissa on August 23. Recognizing this is going to be sad and create a range of
emotions connected to grief, it is important for us to express our
congratulations on their marriage, gratitude for the last year of faithful
service, and wish them well in this next chapter of life and ministry.
Second, with the range of emotions that come out of grief we
must turn our heart toward prayerful anticipation of what God is preparing here
in Conifer. We will be saying
goodbye to two wonderful staff members, and looking ahead to who God will send
our way to continue the work He is doing in this community. We must remember that God is good, and
He is faithful!
Third, let us join together and look to the vision God is
reforming at CCC for His glory.
God is doing a great work through CCC and we cannot come down from
that. Let us press on in prayer,
worship, study, and outreach.
September 6 and 13 I will be sharing with you some encouragement as to
the future God is leading us into for His kingdom’s sake.
Until then, please join me in prayer, seeking God’s wisdom
in His Kingdom work here in the Conifer area.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Lance

Vision 2015
Dear CCC Family,
Exciting days are HERE, and exciting days are AHEAD! Many are growing in faith, and the community of faith is building in the Conifer area. Each week we are seeing new faces, and each week more people are making CCC their home church. With this momentum building, it is important that we keep our eyes on Jesus, and that we continue to work toward the vision to which he has called us in Conifer! This Sunday, February 1 after church, we will hold our annual meeting to set the stage for 2015. This meeting will have two main components, vision casting and budget approval. Through the vision we will dream about what God wants us to accomplish in 2015, and with the budget we will say in dollars and cents how much we really believe God wants to accomplish through us.
Where we have come together...
Four and a half years ago, I began my casting of vision with the words of Martin Luther King, Jr. “I have a dream!” In the time since that meeting we have seen many dreams come true for the church. We have seen spiritual and emotional healing from difficult days. We have renovated key areas in the church. We have launched Compass Groups, Conifer Kids 4 Christ as our children’s ministry, Ignite Student Ministry, and Church Family Night. We have invested in our community through firewood ministry, Christmas lights, Back Pack Project, Elevation Celebration, Easter Meals, Angel Tree, etc. We have supported missions through giving and the first mission trip in years to Honduras. We have opened our doors to the community through facility use. We have seen people come to faith and grow in their faith. We have celebrated 60 years of ministry in the Conifer area. And we have begun a ministry to the Cowboy culture in the Conifer area.
Where we are together…
All of the things listed above and countless other things have placed us in a position of influence in our community like no other time in our church’s history. With that in mind, here are a few things that I believe we could accomplish THIS YEAR as we strive toward our vision of Real People, Real Peace, Reaching Our Community for Christ. 1) As we continue to reach new people with the message of the gospel, we need to make room through overflow seating and expanded parking. 2) Continue to present our facility as a resource for the congregation and community through a renovation and update of our kitchen facilities. 3) Organize ourselves in a way that allows ministry teams to grow and new people to get involved easily. 4) Continue to develop a growing staff team in order to shepherd our community well. 5) Pay off existing debt, and begin to expand our facility to accommodate continued growth and outreach. 6) Complete funding of CCC ministry teams.
Where will we go?…Together…
The answer to this question will begin to be answered through the approval of a budget. Detail of the budget proposal can be found at conifercc.blogspot.com. Within that budget there are three levels defined, bronze, silver, and gold. In an effort to be both responsible and recognizing the growth God is providing, the elders and trustees wanted to make sure we are all moving together in the same direction. Here is the breakdown of response needed at the annual meeting. Acceptance of the “Bronze” level says we are ok with the status quo. Moving to the “Silver” level would say that we are looking ahead to the immediate future with hope. The “Gold” level will communicate to the leadership that the church is ready to see BIG things in the vision God has called us to accomplish. The “Gold” level is left undefined as far as dollars and cents. This would push the Trustees and Elders to prayerfully dream about where God is leading us. The approval of the “Gold” level does not sign a blank check, but approves the numbers presented and call for further action from the leaders. It will communicate that the church is READY to give sacrificially and REQUIRES the leaders to present the next level within six months of approval. As your pastor, I am asking that you prayerfully consider the “Gold” level as we consider the increased influence in the Conifer area.
As Nehemiah said, “We are carrying on a great work, and we cannot come down.” Let’s come together this Sunday in order to reach out in a greater way in 2015.
By God’s Grace,
Pastor Lance

Budget 2015
We pray your Christmas was filled with the hope, peace, joy,
and love as we reflected on in our (Advent)ure series. We are very eager to
hear how God has blessed you through this Advent season. And more importantly,
what God is directing you to embark on as your advent-ure in 2015.
As a leadership team, we have been planning for 2015 for about
two months. There are MANY exciting opportunities for reaching out to our
community in 2015 in faithful response to God’s leading. These opportunities to
serve our Lord AND our community are part of why we reach out to you
today.
For the first time in recollection, your leadership team is reaching
out to you IN ADVANCE of the annual meeting to inform you about the spending
plan for 2015. The Trustees labored long and hard to create a spending plan
that is a reflection of our vision and mission and is also fiscally
responsible. Striking that balance was not without challenge… and sacrifice.
The Elders, providing spiritual guidance, and the Trustees, bringing
wise counsel from a fiscal perspective, formed a great team to formulate the
spending plan we present to you here.
A brief background will help frame the discussion to follow.
Offerings taken each Sunday are the ONLY source of income
from which the church operates. Staff and operating expenses are all paid
solely from Sunday morning offerings. The projected income for 2015 is based on
actual income for the 12 month period beginning December 2013 and ending
November 2014. That figure is $239,304, or $4602 per week.
Our goal for each year is to allocate about 50% of our
income for personnel, 20% on facilities, 10% on missions, and 20% on
programming. These percentages are based on research and analysis of data from
across the country to determine general guidelines for spending in a healthy
church. We continue to strive toward these goals, and though we are not there
yet, we have made considerable progress toward them over the last few years.
During the process of creating the spending plan for 2015,
we realized we had some line items that were not categorized correctly and
shifted some things around a bit. We will provide examples in the text below.
Let’s begin by examining the four categories at a level that is practical for
general discussion.
Personnel - ~50%
In 2014, we were blessed to hire Stuart McPherson as our
Director of Student Ministries in response to God’s calling. Provisions for
adding staff in our 2014 spending plan were non-existent, so the plan was to
compensate him using funds received in excess of projected income and other
reserved funds. God blessed our step of faith with Stuart’s tremendous talent
and enough funding to preserve reserved funds. Praise the Lord! In 2015, part
of the increase in Personnel expenses above the 2014 amount is because we are
including Stuart’s compensation in the spending plan.
When Pastor Lance was called to CCC, our ability to
compensate him fairly was lacking. At that time he was actually encouraged to
seek other opportunities of income. He was able to secure a teaching position
with Colorado Christian University (CCU). Increased time commitments imposed by
our growing church body and increased presence in our mission in the community
precipitated the decision to limit his involvement at CCU. In 2015, we are
setting Pastor Lance’s compensation to be in line with established guidelines based
on many factors including the size of our congregation, our rural setting, the
region of the country, and others. This compensation increase accounts for
another part of the overall increase in Personnel expenses in 2015.
There was a request this year to hire a part-time Director
of Children’s Ministry to administer the burgeoning Children's Ministry. As
much as we tried, we were not able to recommend that expenditure for 2015 based
on our projected income and other expenses.
For 2015, we overshot the 50% Personnel goal and are sitting
at 63.3%. As a consequence, other areas needed to be trimmed to less than our
target percentages.
Facilities - ~20%
The Facilities section of the budget is the “soup to nuts”
section of the spending plan relating to all operating expenses of the church
physical plant and the work done at CCC. Postage, maintenance and janitorial expense, utilities,
office supplies, etc. are all included in the Facilities section of the
spending plan.
One of the things we found in the Facilities section was a
Miscellaneous General Expenses line item that, when evaluated, clearly
contained expenses that should have been categorized in other sections of the
spending plan. By moving those expenses to other areas and trimming back
certain line items based on actual expenses versus planned expenses, and then
establishing guidelines for where expenses were to be billed in the future, we
were able to trim the Facilities section from 30.48% of income in 2014 to
20.89% for 2015.
Missions - ~10%
We feel that tithing is an important Spiritual discipline
along our Spiritual journey. It teaches trust and faith and rewards us with tangible
evidence of God’s providence in our lives, individually and as a local church
family. To that end, we are strongly committed to tithing part of our income to
local and world missions as an act of faith and as a practical example for us
all.
We subdivide our Missions category into Local and World. In
the World category we help support a number of missionaries around the globe.
Tim and Donna Wright and John and Elaine Mehn
all benefit from continued support from CCC. On a local level, we continue to
partner with Camp Id-Ra-Ha-Je, Mountain Area Pregnancy Center, and Mountain
Resource Center, supporting them both physically and financially as an outreach
to and for our community. The Care Ministry, originally started to care for the
CCC family in time of need, has more recently extended to become an outreach to
the local community. Most notable in this category is the Firewood Ministry
that this last year alone provided over 30 cords of wood, free of charge, to
local families in need. For that reason, Care Ministry has been moved from the
Programming area of the spending plan to the Missions section. Finally, we had
a fantastic VBS / Soccer Camp experience this last summer and look forward to
doing something similar again this coming summer as an outreach to the
community. To that end, we have added Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA),
who helped run the soccer camp, as a CCC supported mission in 2015. In all,
10.03% of projected income is allocated toward Missions in 2015.
Programming - ~20%
Programs originating within our church provide ministry opportunities
for Sunday mornings and throughout the week. Church Family Night, Compass
Groups, and Ignite, to name a few, are programs that help us grow closer as a
church family to God and one another. The Sunday morning worship experience
also falls into this section.
This area, without question, is where the Trustees spent
most of their time during the development of the 2015 spending plan. A burgeoning Children’s Ministry and an
ever-expanding Youth Ministry require funding to support them. Adult Ministries
such as Compass Groups and Family Night continue to attract people. Funding for
education materials, child care, and other expenses all have merit in
shepherding this part of the flock. Despite our best efforts, much of the
Programming section had to be reduced or eliminated to get anywhere close to
balancing projected expenses with projected income. We are NOT discouraged! We
believe God has called us to continue this ministry and we trust Him to supply
the need. The funding for Programming in 2015 is currently 4.06% of projected
income, far short of our 20% goal.
Summary
If you added up the percentages above (admit it, some of you
did) you would find they total over 100%. For a number of years, surpluses at
the end of the year were not carried forward as available funds for the
following year and have been accumulating in the general fund account. We plan
to use those funds to cover the difference between our projected income and
projected expenses. As always, we will be wise stewards of the blessing God
provides. Summarized in the table below are the percentages stated above as
well as their dollar figures for both 2014 and 2015.

A Call To Action
In preparation for our annual meeting in the first quarter
of 2015, we ask all of you to join us in prayer over the 2015 spending plan. We
would like to do more, especially in the Programming area, and have an idea to
make it a reality, but we need your help and commitment. The proposed spending
plan detailed above is what we will be asking you to approve at the 2015 annual
meeting. We call this the Bronze
Level in the table below. The “more” is summarized in the table below.
At the Silver Level, the funding we needed to cut in the Adult, Youth and Children’s Ministries areas is
restored. For this to occur, we would need approximately $7,000 ($136/week) in additional
income. Once those funds are in place, we would authorize the Adult, Youth and
Children’s Ministry directors to spend those funds at their discretion. Note
that some of the additional income would go toward the Missions section of the
plan to maintain a minimum of 10% of income in that section.
At the Gold Level, the elders will recommend additional staff
positions and/or supplemental funding in other areas that align with our
mission and vision.

Compass Groups January 2015
Dear CCC Family,
2015 is here! With the start of a new year, there comes a sense of restarting and building. So with that in mind, here is a question, what are you going to do to build authentic community and establish spiritual growth in your life? May I suggest joining a Compass Group through CCC. Compass Groups are the small group environment designed to provide the opportunity for authentic community and spiritual growth. We have many opportunities beginning this week for you to be a part of this exciting discipleship process. (Please also note that Stuart will be holding student meetings(IGNITE) on Wednesdays)
Before we get to the options, let me give you some expectations. These groups will be meeting for a limited time so we ask for a high commitment as the health of the group depends on these factors.
1) ATTEND. If you decide to participate, please commit to attend consistently for the length of the study. Relationships can only build through consistent investment of each involved. Committing to attend and participate for 6 weeks will give you a taste of what Compass Group is designed to provide.
2) PARTICIPATE. Plan to participate in discussion. These are not classes where you attend and expect to be fed information. Participation is needed in order for community to be built.
3) OBSERVE. Anticipate God speaking and moving as you invest your lives with one another. Bring an attitude of openness to what God wants to do rather than simply what you hope to receive.
Many may ask the question, what if I want to check out another group at the end of a study? Where your commitment to the time of the study is expected, you can change groups after that. You are not committed for life to this group. The desire is that you are able to find a place where authentic community and spiritual growth are fostered and experienced. This doesn’t happen for each individual in every group, every time. There also may be another study that may appeal to you down the road that is provided by another group or leader. You have the freedom to consider those.
So, with these things considered, here are the options:
Tuesday Morning Ladies Compass Group

CCC Christmas (Advent)ure 2014
Dear CCC Family,
GET READY!!! The Christmas Season is upon us. There are many opportunities for you to serve and participate through CCC in reaching our community for Christ this year. Our theme is (Advent)ure as there is both great anticipation for the celebration of the birth of Christ and there is an exciting journey that awaits His followers. As you consider your involvement, I ask you to consider three things. 1)How are you growing? 2)Where are you serving? and 3)How are you sharing the love of Christ this year through CCC? With each of these ideas here are some opportunities coming soon.
How will you grow?:
One of the most important ways you can grow during this season is through Sunday morning worship. There will be an (Advent)ure awaiting us all every Sunday 9:30AM. Students will have the opportunity to experience the (Advent)ure of weekly meetings during the three weeks approaching Christmas. You may want to make it a very personal (Advent)ure through the links below for free PDF formatted Bible Study and Devotions through the month of December.
Where will you serve?
Our fantastic First Impressions team is always looking for smiling faces to join the (Advent)ure in greeting people at the door on Sunday mornings.
Help us decorate the church for Christmas through Hanging of the Greens November 22, 9AM.
We will light up the Christmas lights November 29, 4:45-6PM, and we will need people to help prep and serve snacks for the community to enjoy during this event!
How will you share?:
Sharing God’s love can be an (Advent)ure through time, talents, and treasures! Plan to INVITE FRIENDS to great events like Christmas Light Kick-Off(11/29, 4:45), Ladies Fun and Fellowship(12/5, 6PM), Community Christmas Party(12/12, 5:30PM), and Christmas Eve Services (3, 4:30, 6, and 7:30PM). Share your resources through donating food for the Lights Kick-Off(11/29), sponsoring and Angel Tree family(available soon), and Special offering for Care Ministry(Christmas Eve Services).
Whatever ways God leads you this season, make it an (Advent)ure as you grow, serve, and share His love and hope! Merry Christmas!!!
For His Glory,
Pastor Lance
